How to Ride a Motorcycle - Shifting

With the engine running in the neutral position;
  1. disengage the clutch (pull in-clutch lever),
  2. press down on the shift lever until low gear is engaged,
  3. remove foot from shift lever,
  4. increase engine speed slightly,
  5. slowly release clutch lever while advancing throttle.
  6. Repeat procedure for remaining gears.

Proper riding footwear is an integral part of the foot/gear relationship. As well, white gym socks can add an increased layer of protection.
